Tin › Renison

The Renison Tin Project is located approximately 15km NE of Zeehan on Tasmania’s West Coast. It incorporates the historic Renison Bell Mine and process plant, which has produced over 200,000 tonnes of tin and has a history of over 100 years of tin mining. Metals X (then Bluestone Tin Limited) acquired the Renison Bell Prospect in late March 2004 from the Administrator of the previous owner. At that point the underground mine was flooded, power, pumping capability and other mine services were incapacitated. The surface infrastructure including Tin Concentrator, Offices, Laboratory, Workshops and major supply chains were in a dilapidated state.

A significant refurbishment and re-establishment of the Renison Bell underground mine and refurbishment, re-fit and modernisation of the Renison Tin Concentrator was completed in late 2004/early 2005. The total capitilisation in the project at that point being in excess of $40 million.

The Renison Tin concentrator was re-commissioned in late February 2005, operating on a reduced throughput basis. During the year the Renison Bell underground mine was in the phase of establishing production from a zero base and production was building up to sustainable production of approximately 500,000 tonnes per annum.
